Nigerian Army troops have killed two suspected terrorists in Katsina and arrested several other suspects in separate operations carried out across Katsina, Plateau, Anambra and Rivers states.

The operations, conducted between September 14 and 16, were part of ongoing military efforts to tackle terrorism, criminal activities, illegal mining, cattle rustling and infrastructure vandalism in different parts of the country.

In Katsina State, troops of the 35 Battalion deployed under Operation FANSAN YAMMA at the Forward Operating Base in Malumfashi engaged suspected terrorists along the Sayaya-Karaduwa road in Matazu Local Government Area.

Two of the suspects were neutralised during the operation, while troops recovered 10 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, a camouflage uniform, a motorcycle, a cutlass, an SF cap and suspected cannabis.

The operation forms part of sustained military efforts to disrupt the activities of armed groups operating along communities and roads in the state, particularly areas affected by insecurity.

In Plateau State, troops operating under Operation ENDURING PEACE recorded a series of arrests targeting illegal mining and criminal activities.

At a mining site in Agindi Village, Bassa Local Government Area, soldiers arrested six suspected illegal miners and recovered two digging machines, shovels, cutlasses, a fetcher and five mobile phones.

In another operation in Mangu Local Government Area, troops from Sector 8 of Operation ENDURING PEACE raided a suspected hideout linked to cattle rustling at Mangun Village.

Two suspects were arrested during the operation, while soldiers recovered two mobile phones, suspected illicit drugs and N28,755 in cash.

The military also responded to an attack on an illegal mining site around Gwande in Bokkos Local Government Area. Troops engaged the fleeing attackers, forcing them to abandon a motorcycle bearing a local vigilante identification card.

A subsequent operation at a residence reportedly linked to the incident led to the arrest of another suspect identified as the elder brother of one of the fleeing suspects.

The suspect was taken to hospital after the operation but was later confirmed dead.

The military's operations were not limited to Katsina and Plateau, as troops also recorded arrests and recoveries in Anambra and Rivers states.

In Anambra West Local Government Area, troops of the 14 Field Engineering Regiment, working alongside operatives of the Department of State Services and local vigilantes, arrested the owner of a locally fabricated pistol at Mmiata-Anam.

The suspect was apprehended after the weapon was recovered on September 7 and was subsequently handed over to the 82 Provost Company for further investigation.

Meanwhile, in Rivers State, troops of the 6 Division Garrison, supported by personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, raided two suspected camps linked to pipeline vandalism in Bonny Local Government Area.

The suspects reportedly fled the camps as security personnel approached, abandoning three local boats loaded with sections of allegedly vandalised pipelines.

Troops also recovered tools believed to have been used in the destruction and removal of the pipeline infrastructure.

The series of operations highlights the military's continued focus on disrupting criminal networks and securing vulnerable communities and critical national infrastructure across different parts of the country.

In Katsina, the neutralisation of the two suspected terrorists and the recovery of ammunition and other items is expected to further support ongoing security operations in the state's troubled areas, while the arrests in Plateau form part of broader efforts to tackle illegal mining and related criminal activities.
