In a fresh effort to cushion the impact of economic hardship on struggling families, the Katsina State Government has commenced the distribution of 90,000 bags of grains to vulnerable households across the state's 34 local government areas, with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda issuing a stern warning against favoritism, diversion and abuse of the humanitarian intervention.

The distribution exercise, officially launched on Wednesday at the Kaita Local Government Secretariat, is expected to reach beneficiaries in all 361 wards of the state through the Community Development Programme (CDP), a grassroots-based platform designed to deliver government support directly to local communities.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Radda stressed that the success of the intervention would depend on fairness, transparency and accountability, insisting that no deserving citizen should be denied assistance because of political affiliations, social status, personal relationships or other interests.

The governor described the programme as a critical humanitarian response aimed at easing the burden faced by thousands of families amid prevailing economic challenges. According to him, government support must always reach those for whom it is intended, noting that lessons learned from previous distribution exercises had informed improvements to the current process.

Radda emphasized that every official involved in the operation bears a responsibility to ensure that the grains get to the intended beneficiaries without interference or manipulation. He urged all stakeholders, including local government officials, community committees, traditional rulers, religious leaders and security agencies, to carry out their duties with integrity and a strong sense of responsibility.

The governor noted that the Community Development Programme has become a vital channel for delivering interventions at the grassroots level due to its presence in every ward of the state. He said the structure provides government with a reliable mechanism for identifying vulnerable residents and ensuring equitable distribution of support.

The latest intervention adds to a series of welfare initiatives undertaken by the Radda administration in recent months. The governor recalled that the state had previously distributed another 90,000 bags of grains made up of millet, maize and guinea corn to vulnerable households across Katsina.

He also highlighted additional social support programmes, including assistance provided to women engaged in food-related businesses during the Ramadan period and welfare support extended to 7,220 widows spread across the state's 34 local government areas.

Radda further acknowledged the role played by the Aliko Dangote Foundation in supporting food distribution efforts in several communities, describing the partnership as a significant contribution to ongoing efforts aimed at reducing hardship among vulnerable residents.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the Community Development Programme, Dr. Kamaluddeen Kabir, said the exercise goes beyond the mere distribution of food items, explaining that it represents a deliberate effort to ensure government interventions are delivered in a structured, transparent and inclusive manner.

Kabir disclosed that strict monitoring and documentation mechanisms had been put in place to track the movement and distribution of every bag of grain, assuring residents that measures were being implemented to guarantee that assistance reaches the rightful beneficiaries.

He warned that any diversion of the grains would directly deprive vulnerable families of support intended for them, stressing that all stakeholders must remain committed to protecting the integrity of the programme.

The coordinator praised Governor Radda for providing the political backing and institutional support that have enabled the Community Development Programme to expand its reach across Katsina's communities, describing the initiative as another step toward strengthening social protection and bringing relief closer to those who need it most.

As trucks loaded with grains begin moving into communities across the state, attention now turns to the implementation process, with residents hopeful that the intervention will provide much-needed relief to thousands of households battling rising living costs and economic uncertainty.
