Security operatives in Katsina State have arrested a newly recruited Forest Guard, Zahraddin Abdullahi Karadua, over allegations of supplying ammunition to suspected bandits operating in Matazu Local Government Area of the state.
Zahraddin, who is said to be the son of the village head of Karadua, was reportedly arrested while undergoing training as a Forest Guard.
Sources familiar with the development alleged that the suspect had been involved in purchasing and transporting ammunition from Kano to Karadua, where the items were allegedly handed over to persons suspected to be members of a bandit group.
In a video purportedly showing the suspect being questioned by security operatives, Zahraddin allegedly stated that he purchased the ammunition from a man identified as Muhammadu in Kano.
According to the account attributed to him in the video, he transported the ammunition from Kano to Karadua and handed them over to a woman identified as Sahiba.
Another video, said to feature Sahiba, allegedly showed her confirming that she received the ammunition from Zahraddin before taking them to a suspected bandits’ camp near Maharba.
The development comes amid intensified security operations in parts of Katsina State aimed at identifying and disrupting networks suspected of providing logistical support to armed groups.
Zahraddin was reportedly among newly recruited Forest Guards undergoing training under the Federal Government’s initiative to strengthen forest protection and community security.
He was said to have been handed over to the relevant security authorities for further investigation following his arrest.
The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged movement of the ammunition, identify other persons who may have been involved and determine whether the allegations have sufficient evidence to warrant prosecution.
