Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has brought key figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) together in a cross-party alliance aimed at securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Wike announced the political arrangement on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Rainbow Coalition in Abuja, where party leaders, serving and former senators, National Assembly candidates and grassroots mobilisers from the six FCT area councils agreed to support Tinubu as their sole presidential candidate in the next general election.

The minister also declared himself coordinator and field commander of Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the FCT and Rivers State, urging members of both parties to set aside their political differences and work towards a common objective.

“For the purpose of this election, we are together,” Wike said, insisting that neither APC nor PDP affiliation should stand in the way of their collective commitment to the president’s second-term ambition.

He cited the 2024 Edo State governorship election as an example of how cooperation among political actors from different parties could influence electoral outcomes. According to him, the coalition would allow participating politicians to maintain their party identities and pursue separate interests in local contests while working together at the presidential level.

Wike said the alliance would campaign on what he described as the achievements of Tinubu’s administration, particularly in infrastructure, governance, economic reforms and security. He highlighted road construction, school renovations, police station upgrades and improvements to public facilities across the FCT’s six area councils.

The minister also pointed to the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission, the appointment of an internal Head of Service and the creation of dedicated secretariats for women’s affairs and youth development as measures intended to strengthen public administration and expand opportunities for civil servants and other residents.

On security, Wike referenced Tinubu’s support for the proposed establishment of state police, describing it as part of broader efforts to address the country’s security challenges.

The FCT APC chairman, Ishaku Yamawo, pledged his party’s support for Wike’s campaign leadership, describing the minister as the “pilot and commandant” of the territory’s electoral campaign.

Similarly, the FCT PDP chairman, Usman Yahaya, reaffirmed his party’s willingness to support Tinubu’s re-election, declaring that PDP members in the coalition would back the president “100 per cent.”

The alliance signals an effort by Wike and his supporters to build a broad-based campaign structure across party lines ahead of the 2027 presidential election, even as participating politicians retain their affiliations with the APC and PDP.
