The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Katsina State Chapter, has urged residents to promote peace, responsible citizenship and productivity as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

The forum also called on eligible citizens who have not collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so through the appropriate channels of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The ACF made the call in a statement issued on Thursday, October 1, 2026, by its Katsina State Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Malumfashi, to mark Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary.

The forum urged citizens to participate actively and responsibly in the democratic process, while exercising their civic rights peacefully and in accordance with the law.

It also called on residents, particularly youths, to reject drug trafficking, peddling and substance abuse, warning that the consequences affect individuals, families and communities.

The forum urged parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community organisations and relevant authorities to strengthen efforts aimed at preventing drug abuse and supporting rehabilitation programmes.

On politics, the ACF condemned political thuggery, intimidation and violence, saying political differences should not be allowed to undermine peaceful coexistence.

It also advised citizens to use social media responsibly by avoiding the spread of misinformation, hate speech, inflammatory content and messages capable of causing violence or communal tension.

The forum further urged residents to uphold values including respect, honesty, integrity, discipline, hospitality and peaceful coexistence, saying their conduct should reflect the cultural heritage and dignity of Katsina State.

The ACF prayed for continued peace, security, unity and socio-economic prosperity in Katsina State and Nigeria.

It also called on leaders and institutions to work towards strengthening security and creating conditions that would enable citizens to contribute to national development.

The statement was signed by Alhaji Shehu Musa Malumfashi, Wazirin Galadiman Katsina and Chairman of the ACF, Katsina State Chapter.
