Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Keep Faith, Says Hard Times Will Give Way to Progress

As Nigeria marked its 66th Independence Anniversary, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appealed to citizens not to surrender to despair despite the economic difficulties and security concerns confronting the nation, assuring them that brighter days lie ahead.

The President delivered the message during a special Juma’at prayer held at the National Mosque in Abuja as part of activities commemorating the country’s independence celebration. Represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Tinubu said the challenges currently facing the nation should not overshadow the hope and opportunities that remain within reach.

According to him, Nigeria has endured difficult periods throughout its history, but has consistently demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity. He noted that while citizens continue to grapple with economic pressures and security issues, ongoing efforts by his administration are gradually laying the foundation for lasting stability and development.

Tinubu expressed confidence that peace is steadily returning to different parts of the country and that government reforms are beginning to create conditions for sustainable growth. He stressed that democracy remains a vehicle through which the nation can overcome its difficulties and build a more prosperous future for all.

The President said the independence anniversary offered Nigerians an opportunity not only to reflect on the country’s journey since nationhood but also to look ahead with renewed optimism. He urged citizens to focus on the direction the country is heading rather than remain trapped by the disappointments of previous years.

He maintained that his administration had taken deliberate steps to address long-standing challenges that had slowed national development, arguing that many of the mistakes, missed opportunities and structural weaknesses inherited from the past were being confronted through ongoing reforms.

Tinubu further assured Nigerians that the country was moving in the right direction and called for patience as government policies continue to take shape. He acknowledged the sacrifices being made by citizens across the country, describing them as necessary contributions toward building a stronger and more prosperous nation.

The President also appealed for continued support for his administration, insisting that the reforms currently underway require time to deliver their full benefits. He expressed optimism that the efforts of both government and citizens would ultimately yield positive results and place Nigeria on a firmer path to progress.

The prayer service attracted several prominent political and traditional leaders from across the country. Among those in attendance were Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin; Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago; Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo; and the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, alongside other distinguished guests.

The gathering served as both a moment of reflection and a call for national unity, with leaders urging Nigerians to remain hopeful as the country continues its pursuit of peace, stability and economic recovery.
