Nura Umar Abdullahi and four other kidnap victims were received by troops after escaping captivity in Kaura Namoda area

The Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Hon. Nura Umar Abdullahi, and four other kidnap victims have escaped from captivity and been received by troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
The victims escaped in the early hours of Thursday, September 24, 2026, in the general area of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, according to the Theatre Command of Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the task force said the victims escaped during an intelligence-led operation by troops targeting a suspected terrorist location in the area.
The statement, signed by the task force’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the victims were provided with security cover before being evacuated to a military medical facility for treatment, evaluation and routine debriefing.
Abdullahi was abducted from his residence in Bungudu town in July 2026, according to the military.
The Theatre Command said one of the five victims had already been reunited with their family, while arrangements were underway to reunite the remaining victims with their families and the Zamfara State Government.
It said the troops would continue clearance and dominance operations in the area to disrupt terrorist activities and protect communities.
The military also called on residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to assist ongoing efforts to secure the release of other persons who may still be in captivity or remain missing.
