Katsina United has confirmed the death of its player, Chinedu Ozor, who collapsed during a friendly match against Niger Tornadoes at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium, Katsina.
The club, in a statement issued by its Media Directorate, said Ozor died despite efforts to save his life following the incident.
Katsina United also dismissed reports that the player later regained consciousness, describing such reports as false.
According to the club, Ozor’s family, overwhelmed by shock and hoping for his survival, requested further medical confirmation before his body was taken to the morgue.
The club said the family’s moment of hope should not be interpreted as an indication that the player survived.
“Chinedu did not regain consciousness. He passed away,” the club said.
Katsina United appealed to the public to stop circulating rumours and unverified reports about the incident, urging people to respect the grieving family, teammates and friends of the deceased.
The club said Ozor would be remembered as a son, brother, teammate, friend and young man whose life touched many people.
It expressed condolences to his family and prayed for strength for them as they mourned his death.
The club also prayed for the peaceful repose of Ozor’s soul.
