The Federal High Court in Katsina has adjourned the case involving Dr Bashir Kurfi to November 4, 2026, to allow his counsel to respond to a counter-affidavit filed by the first and third respondents.

Counsel to Kurfi, AD Umar, Esq., disclosed this to journalists shortly after the court proceedings.

He said the respondents’ counsel served them with the counter-affidavit on the evening preceding the hearing, making it necessary for the defence to prepare a response.

“Unfortunately, counsel to the first and third respondents served us with their counter-affidavit yesterday evening, so there is a need for us to respond,” Umar said.

He explained that after informing the court of the development, the matter was adjourned to November 4 for definite hearing.

Meanwhile, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed solidarity with Kurfi, with a delegation attending the court session to demonstrate support for him.

Dahiru Rabe, chairman of the ASUU branch at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), said he attended the proceedings on behalf of the union’s Sokoto Zonal Coordinator.

Rabe said the union was concerned about the case and wanted justice to be served without unnecessary delay.

“We are here to show our solidarity with one of us who has been dragged into this litigation. We want justice to be done,” he said.

He added that the union’s interest was to ensure a fair and timely resolution of the matter.

“Delaying justice is denying justice,” Rabe said.

The case is expected to resume on November 4, 2026.
