A new youth-driven movement aimed at fostering unity, peace, and community development has been launched in Funtua, Katsina State, as young people from different ethnic backgrounds came together to inaugurate the Wazobia Progressive Forum.

The forum, officially unveiled on Tuesday, is designed to serve as a platform for promoting peaceful coexistence, leadership development, and collective action among youths regardless of their ethnic, cultural, or religious affiliations.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the Chairman of the forum, Ibrahim Mamman, described the initiative as a strategic effort to bring young Nigerians together to build stronger communities and contribute meaningfully to national development.

According to him, the forum was founded on the belief that sustainable peace and progress can only be achieved when young people put aside their differences and work toward shared goals.

“Our nation becomes stronger when young people embrace unity and work together for peace, development, and the common good,” Mamman said.

He explained that the Wazobia Forum was created as an inclusive platform where members of different ethnic groups could interact freely, exchange ideas, and collaborate on solutions to challenges affecting their communities.

“Wazobia is not just another youth association. It is a deliberate initiative aimed at promoting understanding, tolerance, and cooperation across ethnic and cultural boundaries.

“It will provide an avenue for youths to collectively tackle societal challenges and contribute positively to the growth of their communities and the country,” he added.

Also speaking, the forum’s Secretary, Mubarak Aminu, said the initiative represents a call for unity among Nigerians at a time when national cohesion remains crucial to development.

He noted that one of the forum’s primary objectives is to strengthen relationships among people from different backgrounds, including Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, and other ethnic groups.

“We want to create an environment where everyone feels included and valued, irrespective of their ethnic origin.

“Beyond promoting unity, we are committed to leadership training, supporting vulnerable members of society, and empowering youths with vocational and entrepreneurial skills that can improve their livelihoods,” Aminu said.

The initiative received the endorsement of traditional leaders, with the Magajin Garin Funtua, Alhaji Aliyu Nuhu, commending the founders for establishing a platform that encourages peaceful interaction and collaboration among the town’s diverse population.

He said the forum has the potential to strengthen social harmony by creating opportunities for young people and members of various ethnic communities to identify common concerns and jointly develop practical solutions.

“The forum can serve as a bridge that connects different communities and promotes understanding among them,” Nuhu said.

He urged the newly inaugurated executives to lead with transparency, discipline, integrity, and dedication to the welfare of members and the broader community.

The event also featured a public health awareness campaign on diphtheria, where participants were educated on the symptoms, dangers, prevention, and treatment of the disease. Attendees were encouraged to seek immediate medical attention whenever symptoms are detected to prevent complications and further spread.

The inauguration attracted traditional rulers, community elders, youth leaders, and other stakeholders, who expressed optimism that the forum would play a significant role in promoting peace, social cohesion, and youth empowerment in Funtua and beyond.
