‘Probably My Last Year’: Ronaldo’s Stunning Admission Signals End of an Era

Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that the ongoing season could be the final chapter of his illustrious playing career, raising the prospect of an emotional farewell for one of the sport’s greatest stars.

The Portugal captain made the revelation during an interview with Vogue magazine, where he reflected on his future and life beyond football after more than two decades at the highest level.

“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” Ronaldo said, a statement that has quickly fuelled speculation about his retirement plans.

The 41-year-old forward remains one of the most decorated players in football history, having enjoyed successful spells with Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and his current club, Al-Nassr.

Since making his senior debut for Sporting in 2002, Ronaldo has amassed an extraordinary collection of trophies and individual honours, including five Ballon d’Or awards. His influence on the game has spanned generations, making him one of football’s most recognisable and celebrated figures.

Despite his remarkable achievements, Ronaldo’s quest to add a FIFA World Cup title to his list of honours ended in disappointment after Portugal fell short at this year’s tournament.

While retirement appears to be drawing closer, the Portuguese superstar still has a significant target in sight. Ronaldo has scored 976 goals for club and country and is closing in on the historic milestone of 1,000 career goals.

The Al-Nassr forward said he has already begun thinking about how he will adjust to life after football, acknowledging that leaving the game could create a void after dedicating much of his life to the sport.

“I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard. Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one,” he said.

Ronaldo added that he intends to spend more time travelling, enjoying leisure activities and focusing on interests outside football.

“And also have more fun, travel more, watch and play padel, which I really like, and continue to enjoy what I’ve earned—what we’ve earned. Because after all it’s been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice,” he said.

For now, Ronaldo is expected to continue leading Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League as he pursues the elusive 1,000-goal mark.

However, his latest comments have intensified discussions about the future of a player whose career has rewritten football’s record books. If his prediction proves accurate, the world may be witnessing the beginning of the final season of one of the greatest careers the game has ever known.
